Ok, I've been trying to get our new place cleaned and organized and everything, since Dawnie and I are being hostess gals, and I was totally on schedule with the unpacking, until Buffy got here yesterday. Not that it's Buffy's fault - it's just that we've hardly seen each other since we all took off in different directions a year ago, and there's only so much you can cover in email. So the three of us ended up talking most of the night last night.
We did some exploring of the city today - well, the neighborhood, at least. I think I'll have to get a car soon. There's a shuttle from our neighborhood to the university, but for most everything else we'll need a vehicle. Plus, Dawn's planning to get her license. She's grown up so much! I can't believe she's going to college already. Pretty soon she'll be dating college boys and going to parties - uh-oh. I wonder if Buffy's warned her about college guys? Maybe I can make her an amulet that will ward off the wrong sort - like an anti-Parker spell. If any guy tries to use our Dawnie, he's going to be hurting.
The only thing wrong with San Diego is the absence of Kennedy. I wish she could have come back to the States with me, but she's pretty much the cornerstone of the Slayer training program in Brazil right now. Maybe next year she'll be able to move back here.
I thought about waiting another year to go back to school, but it's going to take me at least five years for my doctorate, plus I've still got to finish a few credits on my undergrad. And - okay, I really missed school. It was strangely liberating, in a somewhat frightening way, to spend a year away from the structure of academic life - but I can't wait to go back! I've already started reading the book for my summer school class. I'm afraid my study skills are kind of rusty, though, so I've been watching the History channel and taking notes just for practice.
Tomorrow's the big event - Xander's flying in! I've missed him so much. You know, this is the longest time we've ever been apart? Plus, he hasn't had much computer or phone access. We've been exchanging letters and postcards, but the mail's pretty slow where he's been. Well, tomorrow we get to catch up! :) |
